1. Dear Ecoprints, where does the domain “losetheprint” come from?

Dear reader,

The origin of the name “losetheprint” is enshrouded in ancient lore, passed down through generations of faint whispers in shadowy chambers. It was said that whoever knew the essence of the phrase held the power to change the world. Unfortunately, this power was also intoxicating and, as any good history student knows, more than one wielder over the ages has gone astray. To protect the world from future calamities, the Elders of the Print tribe have stripped the phrase from memory.

“losetheprint” is merely a paltry substitute, dreamt up in the advent of the digital world by a group of high school students with the vision of a world in which the written word was no longer confined to physical pages composed of the life source of our planet –trees. The command to “lose the print” demands that we eradicate the misuse of the printed word through the use of appropriate technology.

Indeed, it is a call to the revolution – down with print, all hail trees.

2. Dear Ecoprints, I want to become more involved in the environmental activism community, do you have any advice on where I can start?

Hi!

That’s a great question, and it is one that we pondered over for a long time! You can always start right at your school. Most schools have an eco-team and getting involved in this club is an easy foundation to becoming an activist. You could always suggest ideas to engage more with environmental work outside of school and motivate the eco-team, as a whole, to become active environmentalists. In fact, this magazine began with some bright individuals in a school eco-team. Get in touch with environmentalists! Just send them an email, or connect through social media! Most are very enthusiastic about eager members in the youth community. Of course, submitting to Ecoprints is a great idea as well! As long as you have an idea or an opinion about the environment, there is always a place to share. You can also check out our "Resources for you" page" for some local organizations if you are looking for more inspiration. Hope that helped!

3. How did you guys get your name?

Our team wanted to employ a portmanteau of the term “ecological footprint”, which we decided would be the cursory and whimsical “Ecoprints”.  We then realized that the suffix “prints” served simultaneously as a reference to the written medium, which was favourable as we are a publishing enterprise.

4. Dear Ecoprints, what do you all do in your free time?

Hi there!  Everyone here has a diverse range of interest, but one thing we have in common is environmental activism.  Outside of that, we like academia, volunteering, and enterpreneurship.  Between all of us, interests include television and other media, literature, sports, travelling, transformative fiction, the STEM fields, and music. We alos like to network and meet passionate youth, so come out to our events and introduce yourself -- we would love to meet you!

5. Dear Ecoprints,

Are you affiliated with any school?

Hi there,

This is definitely one of the most frequently asked questions by our readers. Ecoprints currently has no affiliation with a specific school, although it originally started out as a school wide initiative at Bloor CI. The first issue was published online using Issuu, the fastest growing online platform, on June 1, 2013. Much to the surprise of the original editors,  Ecoprints became an international hit, garnering thousands of views from over 25 different  countries within the first week upon publication. Selected by Issuu's editorial team to be featured on their front page as a "staff favourite," Ecoprints received many emails from students and teachers across Ontario about a possible expansion to include more students outside of Bloor. With the encouragement and assistance from our mentor, Dr. Brad Bass, Ecoprints decided to expand to incorporate students across Ontario. Our staff are from a variety of different schools, we receive submissions from students who go to various schools in Ontario, and we are primarily financed by our sponsor, Duststop Air Filters Inc. We strive to represent our readers equally, and thus, we are an organzation separate from any school.
